Get Uncomfortable

Wardens Office - Wednesday, January 03, 2018

If you want to make the most of you career - and your life - then challenge yourself.  Playing it safe and sticking to what's known and comfortable will not help you fulfill your potential.  The problem with safe is that it doesn't force you to think outside the box, to experiment, or to broaden your horizons.

If  you're more accustomed to sticking to your comfort zone, be sure you start out slow with small challenges and work your way up to bigger ones.  Each success will increase your confidence and knowledge so that next time, you'll take on a bigger challenge.  Getting uncomfortable and really challenging yourself will help you achieve your goals for 2018 and grow as a person!

Gratitude Works

The benefits of practicing gratitude are nearly endless. People who regularly practice gratitude by taking time to notice and reflect upon the things they're thankful for experience more positive emotions, feel more alive, sleep better, express more compassion and kindness, and even have stronger immune systems. And gratitude doesn't need to be reserved only for momentous occasions: Sure, you might express gratitude after receiving a promotion at work, but you can also be thankful for something as simple as a delicious piece of pumpkin pie.

Ask us Why We Wear Jeans In October

Wardens Office - Tuesday, October 17, 2017

Ask Us Why We Wear Jeans In October!

Warden's has an annual tradition of allowing staff to wear jeans in the month of October.  This tradition started about ten years ago, as a way to get our employees involved and participating in the fight against cancer.  For any day in October that a staff member would like to wear jeans, he/she makes a$5 donation towards cancer research.  In the month of October you will see many Warden's employees sporting their jeans for the cause.  Small steps lead to big strides!

4 Reasons You Should Sit and Stand While at Work

Wardens Office - Wednesday, July 12, 2017

4 Reasons You Should Sit AND Stand While you Work!

Are you tired of being tired after work or even while still at work? Do you want to feel better about your job? If so, take a quick look at these 4 reasons why you should find a way to sit and stand while at work. It doesn't matter if you put a box on your desk to elevate your monitor and keyboard, or if you buy a full size adjustable desk, the goal is to get you up and moving while you work.

1.   Recent studies have shown a link between sitting in a chair all day and cancer rates. "It's just one more reason to get up and walk," said Dr. Jay Brooks, chairman of hematology/oncology at Ochsner Health System in Baton Rouge "The message here is like everything in your life. People need to recognize that the things you do every day have consequences. And if you're in a job that does require sitting, that's fine, but any time you can expend energy is good. That's the key."

2.   When you feel better physically, you tend to feel better about your work. Standing part of the day can increase circulation, focus and productivity.

3.   To avoid health risks you need at least 30 minutes of exercise every day. By standing at an adjustable workstation part of the day, you have the opportunity to do squats and calf lifts while you are working.

4.   The answer isn't to stand all day either. Hazards Magazine says "Individuals spending most of the day on their feet are at greater risk of health problems including varicose veins, poor circulation and swelling in the feet and legs, foot problems, joint damage, heart and circulatory problems and pregnancy difficulties."

The bottom line: a combination of sitting and standing at your job will create a healthier happier YOU.  Like most things in life, moderation is the key.  Try alternating between sitting and standing throughout the day to discover the benefits!

Live Your Life with Courage

Live Your Life with Courage

Have you known people to do something risky: quit their job to travel the world, go back to school in midlife, pick up and move halfway across the country? These are the courageous people who know how to live without regrets. What’s their secret? They’re no different from the rest of us – it’s just that they take action, despite their fears. In other words, they do it scared. Here are some specifics:
They’re not afraid to be labeled “different.” People without regrets aren’t worried about “coloring outside the lines.” They break from tradition and follow their own instincts, rather than what’s expected of them.
They take action, even when unsure of their abilities. These courageous people may hear external – or even internal - voices saying they’re not good enough, smart enough, or skilled enough. But the difference between them and others is that they don’t listen to those voices. They push ahead anyway.
They speak up even when their voice trembles. Courageous people stand up for their values and speak their mind – even at the risk of rejection and even when they think their words have no weight. By speaking up again and again, they come to realize that their opinions actually carry great weight and they can make a difference.
They’re willing to be judged. Fear of embarrassment or vulnerability doesn’t get in their way. They know that people who judge them are only fearful themselves.
